Alberta's capital area is a wonderful combination of tradition and innovation, parkland and urban pleasures, sports and the arts, shopping and hospitality. Unique festivals year round, fine theatres, an unequaled variety of shopping experiences, and entertainment for almost every taste.
Excellent hotels and dining experiences from around the world are all part of Edmonton's distinctive appeal.
On its way from the Rocky Mountains to the Arctic Ocean, the mighty North Saskatchewan River winds majestically through the city, flanked by a lush, city-wide valley of natural parkland-Edmonton's famous ribbon of green. Walk, or bike almost 100 kilometres of multi-use trails, in North America's largest urban park system.
Enjoy an afternoon at the zoo. Visit a nature centre. Picnic. Barbecue. Golf.
History is alive throughout the region. Experience Fort Edmonton Park, a living history museum, where actors in period custom recreate life in the fur trading era and city streets have been recreated in the styles of 1885, 1905 and 1920. Ride a stage coach, a steam train, or a turn-of-the-century electric car.
Elsewhere in the city, there's a private toy museum, a railway museum, an aviation museum and the internationally respected Provincial Museum of Alberta. Experience the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village just east of Edmonton - a living portrayal of the life settlers made for themselves earlier in this century.
Home to world's largest shopping and entertainment complex, Edmonton is a must for a shopping vacation. You will want to tour West Edmonton Mall, featuring over 800 shops and services, the World Waterpark and the Galaxyland Amusement Park. Skate at the Ice Palace, play miniature golf, take a submarine ride or see performing Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins.
Festival season runs almost year round.
